Our Crew

In the world of weddings, the ‘morning of’ is often filled with a rush of duties. From getting your hair and makeup done to capturing the right angles with your photographer, a bride’s ‘to do’ checklist can easily seem never ending!

In these moments, the wedding planning process is in the final stages. Much like a journey through calm and stormy seas, there may be swells along the way but in the end every bride reaches her final destination with the help of loved ones along the way.

Of course, arriving to paradise island requires not only a good crew, but dedicated sailors with experience and determination! Here at LBB, our crew is made up of hard working artists and stylists with a passion for our clients and years of professional experience.

However, getting to work with incredible women like our bride, Stephanie, is the most rewarding of all. Throughout the beautification process she was a pleasure to work with and someone we are honored to cover in this week’s blog!

Airbrush Wedding Makeup

Stephanie is one of our many brides who opted for airbrush makeup due to its picture perfect application and suitability for her skin type. Throughout wedding season we receive so many inquiries and requests for airbrush for its popularity on social media and with celebrities!

So what exactly IS airbrush makeup…?

How does it work? How long does it last? Is it safe for all skin types?

Let’s find out!

DEFINITION: Airbrush makeup is a specialized technique that involves using an airbrush gun to mist pigments onto the skin with exact precision.

HOW IT WORKS: Airbrush makeup is best applied with as few skincare products as possible. In fact, the only thing that should be applied before the first pass would be a primer specific to either dry, oily, or combo skin. This is because airbrush makeup lasts the longest when it’s able to grip to the skin, as opposed to sliding off when placed over multiple skincare products.

We also recommend that severely dry/dehydrated skin types forgo airbrush, since airbrush formulas do not provide as much hydration for the skin (Cox, 2023). Although, in this case it’s always best to consult with your makeup artist about your skin concerns, as there are different airbrush formulas that can be used to accommodate your skin.

Luckily for most of our brides airbrush is a gorgeous option for glamming up on your wedding day! In the words of one of our senior artists, Shannon,

“Airbrush is like wearing a filter over your skin. It buffs out any imperfections like redness, hyperpigmentation, large pores, and uneven skin texture. It basically gives you a flawless finish and is great for clients who enjoy a full coverage, seamless finish.”

DIFFERENT FORMULAS: When it comes to airbrush formulas, there is no ‘one size fits all’! Much like traditional foundations, airbrush comes in a wide variety of options, with four main bases to choose from (Seguin, 2022).

Stephanie (Edgewood Resort)

Alcohol-based: Generally only used on the oiliest of skin types, this formula dries instantaneously and is incredibly resistant and durable. Alcohol-based airbrush makeup is generally used more for the body rather than the face or if the climate is incredibly humid and sweat inducing.

Mineral-based: The ideal choice if you want a foundation free of any synthetic ingredients! Mineral-based airbrush makeup is suitable for all skin types, however, requires special expertise to use. Only experienced airbrush artists use this formula due to its thickness, which takes time to master for flawless applications.

Silicone-based: Wonderful for a natural skin-like finish or dewy makeup look. Silicone-based airbrush is incredibly smoothing on the skin, making it a great choice for brides of all skin types who want to look natural in their pictures!

Water-based: AKA Miss Popular when it comes to bridal makeup. The best part about water-based airbrush foundation is that it’s incredibly easy to blend. As opposed to alcohol or silicone-based airbrush makeup, this formula does not tend to dry as fast, making it very user-friendly and a go-to choice for bridal makeup artists! We also love this option because it’s dry skin friendly 🙂

WEAR TIME: While many people believe that airbrush makeup is a 24-hour, bullet proof design, we like to inform our brides that 12 hours is the max recommended wear time.

Of course, how long and how well airbrush makeup lasts will also depend on your skin type and the climate you live in. Similar to traditional foundations, any humidity or perspiration will decrease its longevity.

For optimal wear, we recommend refraining from touching your face, snacking, or reapplying products throughout the day. Especially if you lean on the more oily side, it’s best to leave the makeup undisturbed.  After all, even airbrush makeup is subject to ruin if not taken care of properly!
